The challenge
The marketplace's sales team calls and texts contractors by hand, 20 to 40 a day, from a register of 261,138 companies. Many had closed or were not the kind of business it sells to, and an email lookup service returned about 3,000 addresses, most of them of no use.
The solution
We built a checker that searches each company online and sorts it as a working contractor, a service-only business or closed. A second, stricter reader re-judges every removal, and the team's call sheets refresh every four hours without overwriting its notes.
The impact
Every company on the register was checked in 10 days, and 222,900 were confirmed as working contractors. The team now calls from a list it can trust.
How we counted
Companies are counted from the checker's own log, 24 September to 4 October 2026. Hours assume one minute to search a company and decide, which is quicker than most people manage by hand.
